We use an elastic band around the roll, and just take it off when we arrive.
We're fulltimers, and have never had this problem!!
You can also stick a pin in it while you are traveling. (We never had a problem with it either.)
We have been using your technique for over 2 years now and it is so simple to just squeeze the roll when you put it on. We were having a problem with the rolls unrolling just about every time we traveled so we were so glad when we seen your original post on the way to take care of it without using any type of gadget that might get lost or land in your foot.
We don't have the problem with T.P. but have had with paper towels in the past. We just clipped a clothes pin to the edge of the roll.
The only trouble we've had with TP was caused by a playful black Lab!!
mAKE SURE TO PUT t p on so you can see the end 0f piece t p come off of roll. LOL
